[...] The first blog post that I think was most impressive is Gays- Accepted?- Be Proud of Who You Are. Here is was able to express my feelings about gay rights and the overall treatment of gay people. I also was able to come out to the class so that they could see where I was coming from and see that I have experience with what I am talking about. It also shows that I feel very strongly about this topic which always makes the reader more interested in the piece. The next blog that I was impressed with was Concrete Angel. I really thought it was great to see the reaction of the class when I played this music video for my discussion starter. It was a way for me to inform more people about the problem the country is having with child abuse. Again this is a topic that hits home for me which makes my views on it quite interesting. I think that a lot of people were touched by this film and I hope that many more people are. Problems like this need to be addressed more so that we as a society can help those children who are going through these horrible things. Finally, I chose 4 kids Beat Homeless Man to Death as my last blog that I really was impressed with. I was taken back when reading this article in Seventeen Magazine and I thought it would be a great topic to write a blog about. This is a horrible thing to have happen and is really shocking that these kids did such a horrible thing. It is good to make people aware of this and hopefully with the knowledge of the occurrence and the consequences that followed more teens will think before they do something so horrific. These three blogs were my favorites and I hope everyone enjoyed reading them. [...]

We are living in a completely sex saturated world. It has gotten to the point where people are numb to this kind of
profanity. Unfortunately "sex sells". Sex is what almost everyone wants to experience and see more of. This to me
is really perverted. I have nothing against sex, but I think that children shouldn't be exposed to it so early.
You know film companies are continually putting sexual innuendos in kiddie films. I am sometimes shocked at what
I hear when I watch children's movies. Its so sad that children are being forced to grow up too fast. Shows such as
"exposed" if shown at all should be aired later at night so young kids won't be able to watch. It's purely unethical.

I know this is a delayed reaction to your blog, but I was looking for some to comment on and you always have good topics. :) Anyway, on to the topic....

I agree with you that I never thought of anything related to sex or oral sex when I was in 5th grade. It's so insane to me that children know as much as they do about sex at such a young age. Clearly we can't stop children from hearing information, but I think we need to help with WHAT the information is that they hear so that they're at least getting correct, accurate information. Parents also can't be with their children all the time to know what information they're hearing and to supervise them, but I feel if children had more accurate information they would at least have the chance to be better informed about their decisions. It's pretty overwhelming to think that some of us may be parents in just a few years and we'll have to worry about this, but on a totally personal level with the best interest and welfare of our own child in mind.

I have not read the writings or seen the videos and I hope to never have to. Its not that I don't think I could handle the content of the writings. It's just the thought that the person who was writing them was ready to commit
murder.
Anyway.
I think that all this circulation of his writing will lead to a stifling of the content of writing classes all over the country but I don't think it will last long.

O.k. that is horrible! There are ratings on t.v. I hope that that show is rated because there is no reason that that should be on at 6 anyway! What child goes to bed before that? I can't believe that they even let that air. The point that they bleep out words is about usless anyway but if there are swear words on the show they should wait to air them, or better yet don't air them at all! I don't think that parents really realize what their kids are watching either so it probably is a good ides to tell your mom. I know that my mom used to come in and see what I was watching every once and awhile when she would cook dinner, but they don't have time to stand over you and watch what you are going to see.

When I heard they were recalling cat & dog foods, I freaked! I have 2 cats and a dog. I don't know what I'd do if anything happened to them especially because of the food I'm buying them. It's terrible! One of my cats acuatlly got sick a week ago & I called the vet immediately. Thankfully she's going to be fine, but a million things were going through my head. What if she was getting sick because of this contaminated cat food? I don't know how I'd react if I lost a pet du eto this whole thing. It's unreal.

I've seen this show before and I don't get what is so great about it that they continue to make new episodes. The entire premise is ridiculous -- as if anyone can find a long-lasting relationship after asking such shallow questions over a short period of time with the help of an ineffective lie detection device. I love how the potential "dates" always act so surprised and shocked at the end of the episode when it's revealed that they're on a television show and were taped/recorded. It reminds me of Ashton Kutcher's show "Punk'd"; did the celebrities honestly not pick up on the fact that they could be a target of the TV show after the 50th episode??? One of my favorite parts of the show is when MTV basically admits it's all b.s. with the disclaimer at the end (or beginning... can't remember, but it doesn't really matter) that states the voice lie-detection test thingy is inaccurate or in my opinion, "This is a load of s#*%, but we'll keep making it because you're bored enough to watch anyway." Stupid show....

Oh man. Let me tell you. The conversation I had with my parents about sex was both brief and wholly uninformative. Let me list it to you for your enjoyment.

I am sitting in my room watching a movie. My dad and mom enter together...an ominous portent.
They look serious. My dad with this arms crossed and my mother lingering awkwardly behind him.
I put the computer down. A death in the family? No there are no tears. Then what...

Parents- Ummm, chris can we talk to you about something?
ME- Yah, sure. What's up?
Parents- Can we talk upstairs?
ME- Yes?

...we walk up the stairs...
We enter my parents room. They take a seat on their bed and I sit on a chair across from them.

Parents- We wanted to talk to you about ...sex.
Me- Ahh... ok.
Parents- Your mother and I wanted you to understand that sex... well its important that two people are careful and make responsible choices when it comes to sex.
Me- *nod*
Parents- Uhhh ya have you had sex?
Me- umm no?
Parents- Ok. good.

The End.

Now. Clearly as you can see. I didn't learn to much about anything. Other then I shouldn't have sex. It's also important to point out that I was 16 or 17 when we had this conversation. Despite how late this conversation happened I didn't turn out to be a whore. I think this is because a more important 'conversation' had been going on all my life. My parents had form a young age instilled and emphasized a respect for women.
I think if a guy fundamentally respects women he will be far less likely to have sex at a young age and/or have porn greatly effect that.

It is ridiculous. Sex is a commodifiable part of our lives. It is in the music, on the television, and in the minds of younger and younger groups of kids. The two issues here that I think need to be addressed are how to protect our children from misrepresentations of sex and how to teach about it in a health way (and as we can see through television and music is not a heathy way).
